Environmental sustainability has become increasingly vital for global businesses. EcoVadis stands out as a leading platform that helps organizations measure and communicate their sustainability progress. The company provides transparent Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) assessments to help businesses share their efforts with customers, investors, and stakeholders.
Established in 2007, EcoVadis is a France-based company delivering ESG risk and compliance insights through globally recognized ratings. The platform has assessed approximately 2.95 million companies across more than 250 industry categories in over 185 countries.
The EcoVadis Sustainability Scorecard evaluates performance across 21 indicators organized into four themes:
These indicators provide companies with a clear framework for improvement while establishing benchmarks for accountability and transparency that regulators and investors use to assess sustainability commitment.
Although EcoVadis assessments are typically voluntary, they're increasingly expected—particularly by large buyers prioritizing environmental responsibility. Many small and midsize companies must complete them to maintain business relationships.
Companies supporting environmental claims must provide verifiable documentation. EcoVadis serves as a trusted benchmark across chemicals, healthcare, consumer goods, and transportation sectors. In manufacturing, retail, and logistics, where supply chains face intense scrutiny, an EcoVadis score demonstrates commitment to sustainability.
The process follows four transparent stages:
Step 1: Register
Initial registration requires your company name and contact information. Customization questions include legal entity name, assessment scope, headquarters location, company size, and industry classification.
Step 2: Report
After registration approval, you'll receive a subscription plan link and begin the sustainability questionnaire. Pricing varies by business size and plan; medium-sized businesses typically start at 1,109 Euros annually for basic plans, reaching 6,579 Euros for Corporate tiers.
EcoVadis requests key supporting documentation for validating your company's sustainability management. Services like Aclymate simplify this by providing audit-ready carbon reporting aligned with EcoVadis documentation requirements.
Step 3: Expert Analysis
EcoVadis sustainability analysts review questionnaire responses alongside publicly available information, basing assessments on:
Step 4: Results
Upon completion, your Scorecard becomes available on the EcoVadis platform. Scorecards remain valid for twelve months and can be shared externally with Premium or Corporate subscriptions.
Key updates for the coming year include:
Stakeholders increasingly demand transparency on environmental issues, particularly in supply chains. EcoVadis reporting builds trust, identifies risks, and unlocks procurement opportunities. Participation can also reduce costs—sound sustainability practices can "lower the cost of capital by up to 90%" and "reduce supply chain costs by as much as 15%."

Differences:
EcoVadis represents one of several critical sustainability frameworks businesses must navigate. As ESG pressure increases, participation demonstrates transparency and builds credibility. Understanding the assessment process and preparing quality documentation is the foundation for earning strong scores and unlocking procurement opportunities.
